Undergraduate Degrees
If you have already decided computers are your thing, then one of our single honours degrees will probably suit you. If you are interested in combining computing with other things, then you should take a look at the joint honours programmes or our degrees in Information Systems. Single HonoursWe run two distinct types of single honours degrees. They cover common ground in the fundamentals of computing science, but differ in the emphasis they place on the various aspects of the subject. The BSc in Computing Science emphasises the techniques required to develop systems and applications software, and provides an understanding of the architectures on which the software runs. Students taking this degree gain extensive knowledge of the principles and theory that underpin the subject. Depending on the modules taken in Stage 3, you may also qualify for the degrees of BSc in Computing Science (Distributed Systems) or BSc in Computing Science (Games and Virtual Environments), BSc in Computing Science (Software Engineering). The BSc in Information Systems has a more applications-oriented flavour. While it covers much of the same core material as the Computing Science and Software Engineering degrees, a third of your time is spent on other subjects such as business, law or a modern foreign language. Students who are not comfortable with a more mathematically-oriented degree may find this suits them better. Depending on the modules taken in Stages 1 -3, you may also qualify for the degrees of BSc Information Systems with Accounting, BSc Information Systems with Business Studies, or BSc Information Systems with Management. More information about all these degrees is available on the University website. Joint HonoursJoint Honours degrees combine either Computing Science or Information Systems with another subject. Half your time is spent studying material from the single honours Computing Science or Information Systems degree, the remainder is spent studying the other subject. More information about the Joint Honours degrees available can be found on the Faculty website or on the University website. Combined HonoursComputing may also be taken as part of the Combined Studies in Science programme which offer a highly flexible programme. This degree provides a flexible programme of study with possibilities for students to transfer to or from more specialist Joint Honours or Single Honours programmes at various stages. |
