These pages are for academics and industrialists interested in finding out more about the research activities of the School, and for staff and students active in research within the School.

Organisation

Research in the School is organised into groups. Within those groups there may be sub-groups. We house three research centres - the Active Learning in Computing: Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL-ALiC), the Centre for Software Reliability (CSR) and the North-East Regional e-Science Centre (NEReSC). We also have close links with the newly-established Informatics Research Institute (IRI).

An overview of our research activity is available.

Projects

We have a record of success in securing funding for research projects. Sponsors include the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the European Commission's Information Society Technologies (IST) programme and industry. We collaborate with over 70 leading research centres throughout Europe.

Publications

The School's research output mainly takes the form of publications. We also have a well-established Technical Report series, which we use in report interchange agreements with many other Departments and Schools. We have strong industrial links through the industry-sponsored research we undertake and details of our current activities are available.

Events

Events for researchers include Colloquia, System Research Group Seminars (SRGs), Asynchronous Systems Lab Seminars (ASLs) and Informal Security Meetings. The School regularly hosts Conferences on topics of interest. Newcastle University also maintains a central events diary.

Degrees by Research (PhD and MPhil)

Information for students following a postgraduate degree by research (PhD or MPhil) is available.
