Funding Success

The international standing of much of our research is exemplified by the fact that the School has been the coordinator of a number of major ESPRIT and IST projects.

This significant involvement in European research continued with the award of two projects, MAFTIA and DSOS in the EU IST RTD Cross Programme Action on "Dependability in Services and Technologies". These two projects were worth a total of €1.7M (euro) to Newcastle. Additionally, CaberNet, the Network of Excellence in Distributed and Dependable Computing Systems has recently closed. This project was worth €400K (euro) to Newcastle. The MAFTIA (Malicious and Accidental Fault Tolerance for Internet Applications) project reached the final short list for the 2004 EU Descartes Prize for Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievements Resulting from European Collaborative Research.

Newcastle is also the lead partner of a six-year, EPSRC funded, Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration on the Dependability of Computer-Based Systems (DIRC) worth over £8M. The total research budget managed by Newcastle in connection with these projects is over £11M.

Recent successes include GOLD and RODIN.
