Data-Intensive Systems Research

The primary interest of the group is to investigate the design of systems that process large amounts of data. A diverse range of research issues are investigated by the group including the design, development and evaluation of: parallel computing systems for data intensive computation; visual parallel programming languages; parallel database servers; grid-based systems to support e-science applications, including meeting the challenging demands of bioinformatics applications; and, the modelling and simulation of complex systems.

The group has a set of high performance parallel and distributed systems that it uses for its experimental work.

The North-East Regional e-Science Centre is hosted by the Group.
