Brief Biography

Peter Andras obtained his BSc (Computer Science, 1995), MSc (Artificial Intelligence, 1996) and PhD (Neural Networks, 2000) from the Babes - Bolyai University (Cluj/Kolozsvar, Romania). He was a leader of Hungarian youth organisations in Transylvania (Romania) between 1990-1991. He was vice-president of the Liberal Circle, the liberal wing of the DAHR, the political organisation of Hungarians in Romania (coalition partner in the Romanian governments since 1996), and member and chairman of national level councils and committees of the DAHR between 1990-1998.

His main achievement in this period was the design of the new self-governmental organisational structure of the DAHR, which was adopted in 1993 and encoded in the Statute of the organisation. He was the founding director of the Civitas Foundation for Civil Society (Cluj/Kolozsvar, Romania) between 1992-1998. He was the Principal Investigator for many projects run by the foundation in the areas of local governments and civil society development. The foundation is currently (2003) the largest Romanian private organisation providing training and consulting services for local governments.

He worked between 1998-2000 at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Maastricht (Maastricht, The Netherlands). He joined the University of Newcastle in 2000 as a Research Associate in the Department of Psychology. He was a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology between 2001-2002. He joined the School of Computing Science in 2002 as a Lecturer. His main scientific interests are in the area of information processing in complex systems (e.g., neural systems, protein interaction systems, social information systems).
